The mammography team at St. Luke’s Hospital in Columbus received a perfect score from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on its recent quality report. The FDA’s Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) inspection rates staff, processes, documentation and image quality for compliance with regulations.

“Our team is always appreciative of such a great report,” Director of Radiology Teresa Davis said. “We have digital equipment in a comfortable, ‘sensory surround’ atmosphere, but I believe it’s our personal touch that sets us apart. You can’t really measure a patient’s surprise at how well they are treated by our team, but we excel in that area, too.”

St. Luke’s Hospital Radiology Department was recognized again as the recipient of the quarterly Top Performers Award for excelling in the Patient Experience. For the second time, the department received this award given by Carolinas HealthCare System of Charlotte, N.C., based on patient responses to a survey about their experience.

The FDA’s perfect report on St. Luke’s Hospital’s mammography service comes just in time for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

“The report couldn’t have come at a better time,” Davis said. “Patients are often hesitant to come in for a mammogram, but annual exams are so important. We hope this news encourages every woman to come in for an exam.”

Everyone who comes in for an exam during October receives a small gift as a reminder of the importance of annual screenings. During October, patients are also entered into a drawing for a beautiful gift basket — one more great reason to schedule your mammogram at St. Luke’s Hospital.
