Works by Monica Stevenson will be on view from Oct. 11 until Nov. 16 at The Depot Room, 22 Depot Street, Tryon, N.C., 28782. The public is invited to the opening reception on Thursday, Oct. 20, from 5-8 p.m. at the Tryon Depot Room. RSVP at m@monicastevenson.com.
Monica Stevenson was born in Princeton, N.J. and grew up in Australia, Spain, and Puerto Rico. She attended UNC Chapel Hill, graduated from Ohio University with a bachelor in fine arts in photography and headed off to New York City to a notable career.
A commercial and fine art photographer/filmmaker, she incorporates a rich, cosmopolitan, visual and tactile language into her imagery. Stevenson draws inspiration from her time spent living abroad, the creative frisson of her New York City studio, and the power of Mother Nature.
Stevenson’s reverence and admiration for all things equine are the driving forces behind the works featured in this exhibition. Stevenson’s own horse, Zoe, acts as her muse in the seasonally colored series, while other haunting photographs, in both black and white and color, stylishly capture the animals and their accessories. Her images are rich in feeling and texture, reflecting the enduring romance of equestrian tradition.
