Seniors will ‘Go for Gold’ at OlympiActs to encourage active, healthy lifestyles on Tuesday, Oct. 11 at Tryon Estates in Columbus.
Nearly 150 seniors and senior fitness trainers/event coordinators will participate. Seniors will show they “still got it” when they compete in a senior sports day and cheer each other on during the first OlympiActs, an event held by Acts Retirement-Life Communities.
Seniors are living longer than any previous generation and studies show that remaining physically active is a key to maintaining quality of life and independence.
Participants representing five retirement communities from North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama and Georgia will compete in a variety of fitness events and games including bocce, billiards, shuffleboard, walking relay, pool relay, brain games, corn hole and Wii bowling.
The seniors will wear colored team shirts and will parade in tandem with their community flag during Opening Ceremonies. Medals will be awarded at the event’s conclusion.
The schedule includes opening ceremonies at 10:30; fitness events and games from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.; lunch at 1 p.m.; medal presentations and closing ceremonies at 2 p.m.
