Polk County Middle School forming hiking club, seeking sponsor

Polk County Middle School is forming a hiking club for interested sixth and seventh-grade students.

Science teacher Rowann Hoy is partnering with Jerry Stensland and Seth Young of Polk County Recreation to take about 15 students on Wednesday afternoon hikes as part of the After-School Program at the middle school. Students will get to learn about North Carolina flora, fauna, history and geology while hiking local trails.

The club is seeking sponsorship, as leaders would like to take students to Pearson’s Falls and Chimney Rock to hike and will also need supplies such as rain gear, water bottles and club T-shirts.
