New Tryon businesses open their doors

On Saturday, Oct. 8, five new businesses will open on Trade Street at 10 a.m. in the three historic buildings restored by Scott Lane on the corner of Oak and Trade Streets. The new location of The Nest, an artisan market, will be located in the Missildine’s Drug Store building; Black Coffee in the Rippy Building; and The Tryon Toymakers & Woodcarvers, Carolina Confections, and the Mills Mosseller Rug Studio in the Jonathan Jackson Building.

An open house held on Friday, Sept. 30, allowed visitors a sneak preview of Lane’s historic preservation. Owners Ashley Menetre of The Nest, Adam Marcello of Black Coffee, and Julia Calhoun of the Toymakers, Carolina Confections, and Mills Mosseller have been hard at work this week bringing in fixtures and product in order to open for business on Oct. 8.

As part of the celebration, Robin Edgar will be on hand at the Toymakers in the Jonathon Jackson Building from 4-6 p.m. to sign copies of her recent children’s book, “The Day Morris Quit.” Each location will offer specials, refreshments, and/or entertainment. Please join them Saturday to celebrate these new additions to Tryon’s downtown.
