Ruby Lee Gibson Jones, 93, of Columbus, N.C. passed away Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 14, 2016 at the Smith Phayer Hospice House, Landrum, S.C.

A native of Polk County, N.C., she was the daughter of the late John Calhoun and Mary Louise Gibson and wife of the late Rev. Eugene M. Jones Sr. who passed away in 2001. Mrs. Jones was a graduate of Stearns High School and attended Cecil’s Business College in Spartanburg, S.C. She went to work for Jackson & Jackson, Tryon, N.C. in 1945 and retired in 1981. In her retirement she worked part time for the Town of Tryon and Rutherford Mental Health. She also volunteered at St. Luke’s Hospital. Mrs. Jones was a member of Tryon First Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, John Timothy Jones, and two brothers, Charlie Gibson and Bob Gibson, and a sister, Mary Swain.

Surviving is one son, Eugene M. Jones, Jr. and wife Marlene of Rocky Mount, N.C.; one grandson, Eugene Michael Jones of Rocky Mount, N.C.; three granddaughters, Jessica Rollins of Central, S.C., Lindsey McMahan of Westminster, S.C. and Adriane Wood of Star, S.C. Also surviving are one brother, Ed (Tete) Gibson, two sisters, Jetty Hutcherson, and Betty Robbins, and seven great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016 in the McFarland Funeral Chapel, Tryon, N.C. with Dr. Jeff Harris and Rev. Christa Warise officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens, Columbus, N.C. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 3-3:45 p.m. at McFarland Funeral Chapel.

The family will be at the home of Guerry and Charlene Forrest, 10 Greenleaf Dr., Greenville, S.C.
