Voting is a responsibility

To the editor:

I would like to encourage everyone to vote in the next election. We need government that listens to the people and passes laws in response to the needs and wishes of the people. We need government that makes decisions that benefit the people of the state of North Carolina not a select few. We don’t have that now. For that reason I am encouraging you to vote for Maureen Copelof for NC House district 113.

Copelof has experience making important decisions. She served 30 years in the U.S. Navy and, as a commanding officer of a major Naval telecommunications station, she had to make hard decisions, balance budgets and ensure the safety and welfare of all of the people (sailors and civilians) who worked for her. She had to be impartial and unbiased.

Maureen also believes in serving her community. She worked pro bono as director of a nonprofit therapeutics riding center, Free Rein, for two years and has served on multiple civic and community boards. She cares about people.

With her experience and a master’s degree in business administration, she understands financial issues. Having been responsible for annual budgets of over $100 million while in the Navy she understands the importance of being fiscally responsible.

Finally, I’m supporting Maureen because I know she will always ask herself, “Will approving this legislation help the people I was elected to represent, not special interests or partisan positions?”

We need people like Maureen Copelof in government. She will be a fair and honest representative for the people of our district.
