Stacks of hot cakes, sticky delicious syrup, bacon, sausage and a spoonful of applesauce will be served up Thursday, Sept. 8, from 5-7 p.m. as the Kiwanis Club of Tryon sponsors its popular pancake supper. The annual event will be held at Tryon Elementary School Cafeteria. Tickets are available from any member of the Kiwanis Club, from Owens Pharmacy or at the door.
“Our club really enjoys this fundraiser, and we greatly appreciate the support of our community,” said Lee Cobourn, a past chair of the club and current organizer for this event. Proceeds from the pancake supper will be used to help fund scholarships for Polk County High School Seniors. Each year, the Kiwanis Club of Tryon sponsors four to five scholarships for seniors headed to college.
The Kiwanis Club of Tryon, incorporated in 1927, has a long-standing history of working to support the health and welfare of children in Polk County and across the globe. Providing life-saving iodine to third world countries and funding playgrounds at local schools, the Kiwanis Club of Tryon is focused on opportunities to improve the lives of children.
The club distributes children’s books throughout the community, supports Thermal Belt Outreach’s Feed a Kid program; sponsors a Key Club for high school students and Aktion Club, a service club for disabled adults, and supports many other services for children and teens, including several college scholarships for high school seniors. The club was also recognized as a Model Club, supporting the fundraising efforts of Kiwanis International to eliminate maternal-neonatal tetanus.
“The pancake supper is a signature event for our club. We really enjoy the camaraderie and friendship we share as a club and with the many people who come out each year to support our efforts,” Cobourn said. “We hope to have a big crowd again this year!”
The annual pancake supper is one of several major fundraisers held to support Kiwanis Club’s mission to improve the world, one child at a time.
