The Sons of Liberty Riders of North Carolina and South Carolina are hosting their fourth annual 9.11 Benghazi Memorial Ride on Saturday, Sept. 10. Based out of Columbus, the North Carolina organization has been active in commemorating the tragedy in Benghazi, Libya killing four Americans on the night of Sept. 11, 2012.

“Telling the story of government betrayal and honoring the memory of Chris Stevens, Sean Smith, Glen Doherty and Tyrone Woods has been a priority for us,” says Dick Shaughnessy, the North Carolina president.  This years’ memorial ride begins with an invocation at 10 a.m. in the Towne Square in Hiawassee, Ga., followed by an escorted motorcycle ride through towns in North Carolina, Georgia, and Tennessee ending up at the Henn Theatre in Murphy, N.C. where there will be a final ceremony and special showing of the movie, “13 Hours:  The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi.”

Registration for the 100-mile ride will start at 8:30 a.m. in Hiawassee, Ga.  At 10 a.m., there will be brief welcome remarks followed by an invocation and blessing of the bikes. Riders will depart Hiawassee, Ga. promptly at 10:30 a.m. and travel through Hayesville, N.C., Blairsville and Blue Ridge, Ga. and Ducktown, Tenn. There will be a brief ceremony at each location.

The inspiration for the memorial program four years ago was the tragedy that occurred on the anniversary of 9-11 in Benghazi, Libya where the U.S. Mission and CIA Annex were attacked and overrun by Libyan rebels. That attack resulted in the tragic deaths of four Americans: Ambassador Christopher Stevens, Sean Smith, Glen Doherty and Tyrone Woods.

According to Dr. Dan Eichenbaum, one of the event organizers, “It’s a time to remember the brave men who sacrificed their lives in service to their country and a time to reflect on the betrayal that will forever define the government’s response to the deadly events of the evening of Sept. 11, 2012.”

This is a free event. There are no registration fees or charges for the riders. The public is invited and welcome to attend. There will be an opportunity for donations.

The Sons of Liberty Riders is a national organization whose mission is to unite patriots for the cause of liberty with chapters throughout the United States, including North Carolina and South Carolina, Georgia and Tennessee.
