Shirley A. Leggett-Johnson

Shirley A. Leggett-Johnson’s feisty and generous spirit was released from her worn out body on July 9, 2016 and is now bargaining for the best deal at the eternal “Yard Sale” in the heavens. Shirley was born in Maryland, but shortly after moved to her beloved North Carolina. Which explains her deep love of Crab Cakes and Eastern NC BBQ. She also resided in California, Denver, Chicago and Virginia, where she gathered many lifelong friends along the way with her larger than life, fun loving personality.
Shirley is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Richard Johnson, who took amazing care of her in her last years. Her proudest accomplishments her children Eric Johnson, Pamela Johnson-McCarthy, and grandchildren Conner and Evan McCarthy will proudly carry on her famously opinionated and sharp tongued qualities.
Shirley is also survived by her sweet sister Sarah Johnson and many more close relatives that she loved, including her adopted by heart daughter Monique Dale, and favorite ex-son in law Michael McCarthy.
Shirley never met a stranger and was looking forward to a raucous reunion with long lost family and friends. She is loving up her son Randall Johnson and parents Pete, Thelma and Viola Leggett, she is certainly singing an off tune Gospel hymn with her sister Joanie Johnson, telling an off color joke with her brother Kenneth Leggett, and cutting a rug while jitter-bugging with her brother Bobby Leggett.
Shirley generously volunteered for many years at St Luke’s Thrift Store until her health declined.
Everyone who remembers Shirley fondly is asked to celebrate by raising a glass of your favorite beverage and shouting out a muffled curse word. Instead of flowers or donations Shirley would hope that you will do an unexpected and unsolicited act of kindness for someone in need.
Shirley’s amazing life will be celebrated on October 8 with a gathering of family and friends. She will be missed by all.
