The Children’s Choir of First Baptist Church of Tryon will present, “The Lost Boy: Young Jesus in the Temple,” a musical play by Allen Pote and Tom S. Long this Sunday, May 15.
The play will be during the church’s 11 a.m. service at First Baptist Church of Tryon, located at 125 Pacolet Street.
The children’s choir (grades 1-5) has been working on the musical since February. The cast includes Katie Cothran (as Mary), Jack Fox (as Joseph), Campbell Mathis (as Jesus), Luke Miller (as Zechariah), StorieLane Whiteside (as Elizabeth), Hayden Blackwell, Hattie Jolly Crawford, Charley Dusenbury, Harper Harris, McClain Koistinen, Laney Littlefield and Oliviah Miller.
The children’s choir has presented several programs and musicals during the last four years under the direction of Candy Wilson, but this is the choir’s biggest undertaking to date.
“They have worked countless hours to make this presentation a meaningful experience for themselves and for those in attendance,” said Wilson.
After the birth of Jesus the only time Jesus is shown in the Bible as a boy is in the gospel of Luke, when Mary and Joseph lose track of the 12-year old for three days. They find Jesus sitting in “His father’s house.”
The story is about the divine wisdom of the young Messiah, but there is also a human message that even parents chosen by God can lose a child and even a perfect child can give his parents anxiety.
Everyone is invited to attend the presentation.
