Assault on Marion and Assault on Mt. Mitchell planned for next Monday
As one of the Southeast’s premier cycling experiences, The Assaults on Mt. Mitchell and Marion will be held Monday, May 16, and take cyclists from Spartanburg, S.C., to Marion, N.C., or the top of Mt. Mitchell.
A bucket list ride for serious cyclists, The Assaults is one of the most intense, premier cycling experiences in the Southeast. This year, approximately 850 cyclists from across the world will be participating, riding from Spartanburg, S.C. to either Marion, N.C. (74.2 miles, known as The Assault on Marion) or the summit of Mt. Mitchell (102.7 miles, known as The Assault on Mt. Mitchell).
Proceeds from the Assaults will be donated to HUB Cycle, a nonprofit organization that supports bicycle safety and educational programming to cyclists of all ages throughout the Upstate. For more information on the rides, visit theassaults.com.
The organization behind The Assaults, The Freewheelers, is a Spartanburg, S.C.-based, 501(c)(3) nonprofit community service organization founded in 1973. The Freewheelers’ mission is to provide education and promotion of bicycle safety, and a forum for amateur sports competition and touring.
