Terry Hays, 66, of Tryon, N.C. passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at the Hospice House of the Carolina Foothills.
Terry was born to Helen and the late Kelly Hays and grew up in Polk County, N.C. He was a member of Big Level Baptist Church. He was owner and operator of Hays Backhoe. Terry was hardworking, dedicated, completely honest, and always willing to help people less fortunate.
After serving his country in the U.S. Army, he returned home to a ‘hand me down’ Case backhoe with which he started Hays Backhoe Service in 1972, a niche business for the time. After years of hard work, long hours, and quality services Terry grew his business into what was his life ambition. His services will be much missed in this area.
In his free time, Terry enjoyed riding his Harley and visiting the lake.
Terry is survived by his wife Rachel, daughter Shellie Hays Bridges of Stafford, Va. and stepdaughter Shelle’ Nelson of Mill Spring, brothers Sterling and Bubba Hays and sister Jeanie Hays Russell. Also surviving are grandchildren Morgan, Tye, Beth and CalliJo.
The family will receive friends 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Monday, April 25, 2016 at Big Level Baptist Church. The funeral service will immediately follow at 1 p.m. with Rev. Aaron Pruitt officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the local chapter of disabled veterans.
