Tryon makes appointments to tourism board

During Tryon Town Council’s March 15 meeting, commissioners appointed Anne Day, Michaila Cowles and Doug Arbogast to the Tryon Tourism Development Authority (TTDA). The board had two recent resignations from Mary Prioleau and Susan Brady. There were five applications for three open positions.

Tryon appoints new member to planning and board of adjustment

Tryon Town Council appointed Jim Gross as a new member to its board of planning and adjustment. The board made the appointment during its meeting on March 15.

Tryon approves alcohol permit for Shrimp Fest

Tryon Town Council approved an alcohol permit for the Tryon Rotary Club’s annual Shrimp Fest during its March 15 meeting. The town has to approve alcohol being sold at any event held at Harmon Field. The Shrimp Fest is scheduled for Sept. 16 this year at Harmon Field. The Rotary Club of Tryon will have alcohol in the open air gym.

Towns considering Tryon contracted trash pick-up for Columbus

During the Columbus Town Council meeting on March 17, Columbus Town Manager Tim Barth updated council that the town is considering contracting with the Town of Tryon for its garbage and recycling service. Barth said Tryon has the equipment and it is possible Tryon can do the service for Columbus cheaper than Columbus’ current contract. Barth said Tryon may have to hire an additional employee possibly part-time to add Columbus and that no decisions have yet been made. The towns will discuss the possibility during upcoming budget preparations.

Tryon plans annual Litter Sweep April 16-30

The Town of Tryon is participating in the annual Litter Sweep soon and has April 23 planned for residents to help clean up the Tryon Cemetery and the Eastside neighborhood.
