Joey Metcalf, 48, passed away Tuesday afternoon, March 8, 2016 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, Spartanburg, S.C.

Born in Rutherford County, N.C., he was the son of Hubert Lee and Ann Metcalf of Green Creek, N.C. and the late Judy Hill Metcalf. Joey was a graduate of East Hendersonville High School class of 1985.  After graduation, he served in the U.S. Army for eight years. He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service in Columbus, N.C. and worked as a mail carrier for the last 20 years. In his free time, he enjoyed singing gospel music and watching sporting events with his many friends in “The Cave.”

Surviving in addition to his parents are two daughters, Taylor and Connor Metcalf, both of the home; one brother, Rev. Tim Metcalf (Diane) of Charlotte, N.C.; three sisters, Linda Motola of Jacksonville, Fla., Donna O’Boyle of Charlotte, N.C., and Leigh Ann Edwards of Green Creek, N.C.; and the mother of his children and best friend, Melissa Metcalf of Green Creek, N.C. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his mother, Joey was preceded in death in by a brother, Buddy Brevard.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 11, 2016 in the McFarland Funeral Chapel, Tryon, N.C. with Rev. Tim Metcalf officiating.

Burial will follow in Big Level Baptist Church Cemetery, Mill Spring, N.C.

The family will receive friends Thursday, March 10, 2016 from 6 – 8 p.m. in the McFarland Funeral Chapel.

At other times, the family will be at the home of Hubert and Ann Metcalf.
