Edna McKaig Roach Morrow

Edna McKaig Roach Morrow, 93, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on March 7, 2016.

She was born April 18, 1922, the daughter of the late James Bryant McKaig and Kate Ross McKaig. She was predeceased by her husband Woodrow Roach, Sr., and later by her second husband, Claude Morrow, her son James “Jimmy” Melton Roach, and brothers James, Bill, Lloyd, and Floyd.

Ms. Edna was a devoted and beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. A 1939 graduate of Tryon High School, she later attended Cecil’s Business School in Spartanburg. For over 50 years, she was a bookkeeper at Cowan’s Supermarket and Hardware in Tryon.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Tryon. An avid quilter, she left precious keepsakes for her family to cherish.

She is survived by her son Woodrow “Woody” Roach (Susan) of Galivants Ferry, S.C., daughter Kathyanne Harding (Scott) of Tryon, daughter-in-law Karan Roach of Labelle, Fla., brothers Franklin McKaig of Tryon and Fred McKaig of Raleigh, and sisters Barbara Edwards of Jonesborough, Tenn., and Katherine Garrett of Tryon.

She is also survived by nine grandchildren: Jeff Roach (Victoria) of Sulphur, La., Judd Clemmers (Ashley) of Tampa, Fla., Ivey Ridders (Jason) of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Jennifer Rabon (Chase) of Galivants Ferry, S.C., Dori Brown (Jeremy) of Aynor, S.C., Meredith Harding­Bremner (Edward) of Hendersonville, N.C., Adria Denny (Matthew) of Belews Creek, N.C., Andrew Harding (Riley) of Hendersonville, N.C. and Evan Harding of Mooresville, N.C. Surviving are twelve great­grandchildren: Zoey, Sophie, Cole, Caleb, Jax, Wyatt, Reagan, Kaylan, Lane, Benji, Simon, and Katie.

Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church of Tryon, on Saturday, March 12, 2016, at 11 a.m. Visitation will be at the church from 10 – ­10:45 a.m. prior to the service.

The family would like to thank the staff of White Oak Rehab for their support and care during her short stay and to the ladies of First Baptist for their faithful visits to her home over the last two years.
