The Columbus Police Department apprehended a suspect last week who was wanted for attempted murder out of Spartanburg County, S.C.

Christopher Lee Cox, 50, of 1723 Haynes St., Spartanburg, S.C. was arrested for three counts of attempted murder and one count of malicious damage to property, according to Columbus police reports.

Columbus also charged Cox with possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of a concealed weapon after officers found a firearm during the arrest.

Following Cox being transported to the Polk County Jail, he was also charged with possession of weapon by prisoner, possession of a controlled substance on jail premises and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to police reports.

Cox was wanted on outstanding warrants by the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office.

The Columbus Police Department apprehended Cox at Wendy’s in Columbus, where he was taken into custody without incident. Cox was arrested on Feb. 25.

Columbus was assisted in the arrest by the N.C. Highway Patrol.

Cox was still in custody at the Polk County Jail as of Tuesday, March 1 and had his first court appearance in Polk County on Monday, Feb. 29.
