Dale Holl

Dale Holl, 92, of Mill Spring, N.C., passed away peacefully in his home on Monday, Feb. 22, 2016.

Born on a farm in Canton, Ohio in 1923, he was the third child of Clarence and Grace Holl. At age 19 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and for the duration of World War II he was stationed aboard the battleship USS Missouri. Here he witnessed the signing of the Japanese Surrender Document which ended the war in 1945.

After the war, he completed his education on the G.I. Bill at Ohio State University, graduating with a degree in chemical engineering in 1948.

He moved to the Detroit area where he raised his two children. In 1958, Dale and a business partner founded and operated a successful nut and bolt master distributer business. Later Dale became sole owner of the company. In 2008, the company celebrated 50 years of doing business and continues today. Dale was an active member of the Tryon Rotary Club. He enjoyed aviation, obtained his pilot license, and spent time flying his own jet for business and pleasure.

Dale is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Patricia Murphy Holl, and his two children, Janet (Paul) Tegel of Elk Rapids, Mich.; and Steven (Kathryn) Holl of Traverse City, Mich.; six grandchildren: Sam (Sarah) Tegel of Winnetka, Ill.; Will (Karen) Tegel of Chicago; Ben Tegel of Maui, Hawaii; Mike (Jeorgina) of Alexandria, Va.; Travis and Grace Holl of Traverse City, Mich.; and four great-grandchildren, Luke, Nicholas, Melina, and Ellie.

The family would like to thank the staff of Hospice of the Carolina Foothills for their extraordinary dedication and service to Dale in his last months of life.

A celebration of Dale’s life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a local charity of choice.
