Howard Walter Harms

Howard “Mickey” Walter Harms passed away suddenly on Saturday, Jan. 23, 2016 at Sarasota Memorial Hospital, Sarasota, Fla. with his daughter at his side.

He was born on Dec. 3, 1930 in Toledo, Ohio. He was the only son of the late Walter and Thelma Harms. He was preceded in death by his wife Eve Lynn Harms. He is survived by his three children, Pamela Lott (Bob) of Horse Shoe, N.C., Jeff Harms (Jackie) of Mill Spring, N.C. and Gary Harms (Gina) of Saluda, N.C.; four grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

Howard was a health inspector for the city of Toledo, Ohio for 33 years. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a combat medic. He resided in Sarasota, Fla. on St Armand’s key for the last 10 years where he was instrumental in restoring the Lido Beach casino and pool area. You could find him there every morning having breakfast and coffee, sharing stories of growing up on the beach and practicing with the Barnum and Bailey circus acts.

Besides his family, his next love was music. He was a jazz musician and could play any instrument he picked up but his true talent and enjoyment was playing the drums. He also loved airplanes and flying.

Our Dad and Grampa will be missed.

A memorial service has not been scheduled at this time.
