Lillian Jeanette Jewell, 92, of Columbus, N.C., died Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2016 in Tryon Estates.

Born in Queens, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Helen Wald Walker. She was the wife of the late Cyril Jewell. Her occupation was a key punch operator. She was known for translating math textbooks into braille. She and her husband were avid travelers, and Lillian will be remembered as a lady who loved her family and friends. She also enjoyed bird watching. She was of the Presbyterian faith.

Surviving are nieces, Barbara Parker (Joe), Beverly McKnight (Harry), Vicki Williams (Bill), Patsy Lott (Dennis), Susan Ozkan (Osman), and Carolyn Glebas; a nephew, Chris Walker (Mary); a great-nephew, Jason Nemeck, and a dear friend, Barbara Ahmed. Also surviving is a sister in law, Jean Walker.
