U.S. 176 between Tryon and Saluda will remain closed another few weeks, according to a release from the N.C. Department of Transportation (NCDOT).

The section of the road was closed earlier this month following a mud and rockslide into the road, near the twin bridges on the Tryon side of 176.

NCDOT Geotechnical Unit engineers removed the remaining part of the slide area last week, but rocks came down from higher up on the mountainside, according to NCDOT’s release.

Remaining work could include a retaining wall and/or netting to secure the higher location to prevent additional rocks from falling into the U.S. 176.

NCDOT has hired a contractor for the additional work.

All residents in the area are able to access their homes and detours with signage are available.
