Donald Elmer Barnett

Donald Elmer Barnett of Tryon, N.C. passed away Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 1, 2015 in the Hospice House of the Carolina Foothills, Landrum, S.C.

Born Jan. 5, 1931 in Jefferson, Ga., he was the son of the late Herman Elmer and Amanda Eckles Barnett. Mr. Barnett was a Mason, English professor at the University of Georgia for 37 years, and a member of Bethany Methodist Church in Jefferson, Ga.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Douglas Barnett.

Surviving is his loving wife of 60 years, Cynthia York Barnett; two sons, Donald Charles “Chip” Barnett and Michael William York Barnett; one nephew, Larry Douglas Barnett (Betty); one niece, Lynn Theresa Tench (Marcus) and cousins, great nieces, and great nephews.

Funeral services and burial will be at 2 p.m., Friday, Dec. 4, 2015 under the direction of Evans Funeral Home, Jefferson, Ga.
