Bookbinder returns to Lanier Library Saturday

Published 3:56 pm Monday, November 2, 2015

Judith Beers, the bookbinder and restorer from Asheville who was the featured speaker at September’s Brown Bag Lunch, returns to Lanier Library Saturday, Nov. 7 to provide book evaluations for members and the general public. As a book conservator, her evaluations will be not the worth of books brought in, but rather her estimation of the cost of repairing and restoring them so that they will last many more years.

Beers began making books in 2004, discovering the art of repair and restoration along the way. She apprenticed at Light of Day Bindery in Asheville, and now works there and at her home studio. She also teaches class in bookbinding, box making, marbling, and book repair and restoration.

Those interested in finding out options on repairing, restoring, or preserving their own books, whether rare or with sentimental value only, are invited to bring them into the library between the hours of 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. There will be a $5 fee for every three books brought in for evaluation.
