High school regulations dictate when regular practices begin, but area football teams, like Landrum High School’s, are permitted to have 7-on-7 pass receiving/defending drills now.

Including junior varsity events, the Cardinals will participate in nine such drills, with a varsity 7-on-7 set for July 21 at home.

Last Thursday, July 9, Cardinals’ pass receivers and defenders met with their peers from Chapman and Chesnee, at Chapman High, Inman.

“It is designed to help with your passing game both receiving and timing from our quarterbacks,” Landrum head coach Jason Farmer explained. “Defensively, it allows us to work on coverage and reacting to the ball.”

On July 16-18, Farmer’s squad will participate at the FCA 7-on-7 camp at USC Upstate in Spartanburg.

First day of practice for the Cardinals will be August 3.

First game of the season will be at Travelers Rest on August 28. Opening kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.
