On Sunday, June 21, more than 75 Saluda citizens crossed all political and religious lines to join together to mourn the loss last week of members of the Emanuel AME church in Charleston. After convening in both McCreery Park and the Saluda Memorial Park for prayer, message and song, more than 50 walked the half mile to St. Matthews Church, Saluda’s historically black church. While there, more song and discussion of racial issues was had. It was especially meaningful to hear from Maxine Wilkerson, long time Saluda resident, about living and raising her children in a predominantly white town.
