Harmon Field closed next week
Harmon Field will be closed to the public next week so crews can prepare for the Blue Ridge Barbecue and Music Festival. The festival will be held at Harmon Field on Friday and Saturday.
Saluda sign ordinance public hearing Monday
Saluda City Council will hold a public hearing regarding proposed amendments to its sign ordinance on Monday, June 8 beginning at 6 p.m. The meeting is held in the second floor meeting room of the Saluda Public Library downtown. The public hearing will be from 6-7 p.m. with council’s regular meeting beginning at 7 p.m.
Polk BOC considers meeting date changes
The Polk County Board of Commissioners is considering a few meeting date changes over the next few months. Commissioners met June 1 and discussed possibly moving the Aug. 3 meeting to Aug. 10 and meeting again Aug. 24 instead of Aug. 17. Commissioners also discussed the possibility of only having one meeting in September, since the scheduled Sept. 7 meeting is on Labor Day. Commissioners also said they are thinking about having some meetings in the morning instead of at night. The board will make the decisions on the meeting schedule during its next meeting on June 15.
Polk approves $95k budget amendment for jail expenses
The Polk County Board of Commissioners approved a budget amendment during its June 1 meeting for the jail. The jail was over $5,000 in food costs, $58,000 in medical costs and $32,000 for out of county housing expenses this fiscal year. The funding was taken from the county’s fund balance.
Polk to purchase adjustable basketball goals for Stearns
The Polk County Board of Commissioners approved a budget amendment for its recreation department on June 1 to allow for the purchase of adjustable basketball goals at Stearns Gym. The amendment was to take $8,600 from recreation salaries to the recreation department’s capital budget for the purchase.
