Landrum Fire Department’s Junior Firefighters recently installed a blue reflective address sign on a mailbox at a home in Landrum. The juniors are, left to right, Austin Farmer, Johnny Sherman, Will Owens, Corey Ashmore, Phillip Davis (training officer), Sarah Sprouse, and Cole Dotson, kneeling.

The Landrum Fire Department’s Junior Firefighters are currently selling reflective address signs for homes and businesses.

“The reflective address signs make a huge difference when emergency responders have to find you,” said Philip Davis, training officer for the junior firefighters. “In certain situations, a few seconds could be life or death, whether it’s a fire or medical emergency.”

All the proceeds from the sale of these blue reflective signs will benefit the junior firefighter program and will enable the purchase of station (duty) uniforms, at a cost of about $250 per junior.

“Our program depends greatly on donations and fundraising, but our program is not the only one to benefit from the signs,” said Davis. “Your loved one having a medical emergency will receive medical attention quicker. The fire that’s burning won’t have the chance to grow because of a delayed response. Whatever your emergency — police, EMS, or fire – we’ll be able to get to you quicker. If we can’t find you, we can’t help you!”

The signs, which can be made horizontal or vertical, can be purchased for $15 at the Landrum Fire Department at 200 N. Trade Ave.

Donations for the junior firefighter program can also be left at First Citizens Bank in Landrum or at the Landrum Fire Department.

“We would like to thank everyone who has helped, donated and supported our program thus far,” said Davis.

For more information or to order your sign, call Davis at 864-216-2639.
