Pancakes for pooches

On Saturday, Feb. 21, Larkin’s Carolina Grill hosted a pancake breakfast with all the proceeds going to Lennie’s kids. Due to inclement weather and an advertising error, only 20 people were in attendance, but these people are my angels and enough money was raised to pay the whole bill for Little Girl, the Pekingese who lost her eye. Quite a few people told me that they would have been there had they known.
Jason, Larkin’s general manager, has been a strong supporter through the years and he has promised that we’ll do it again when the weather gets warmer.
“This time,” Jason said, “We’ll have them bring their pooches if they wish.” I’m sure Jason wouldn’t mind if you slipped your pup a piece of sausage during the festivities.
Speaking of Little Girl, she’s adjusting just fine, her family is thankful and happy, and the other dog that caused the problem is out of the picture. All this was music to my ears.
My sweet Gidget has been adopted into a forever home and I couldn’t have picked a more perfect environment. The feedback I received on how wonderfully Gidget adapted to their family, along with her splendid personality, warmed my heart. Thank you Don and Karen, it is folks such as yourselves that make fulfilling my cause so much easier.
I received a message from Dr. Joe Picone that Dax, the shepherd pup placed with autistic boy, is doing well. Forest, the brother of Dax, who was born with a leg deformity, is also in a new home. He is now with a 13-year-old girl and I’m told they are inseparable. More on Forest when we take the leg and I get to meet the family. This is another wonderful outcome.
Beautiful, majestic Duke, the dark brindle Boxer who was sent to the SAP program, has graduated and is on the job with his soldier. The thought of it all just fills me with pride and gratitude, both for the soldier and his new forever companion.
I am still praying and hoping for a home for Baxter, the older Boxer I have spoken about. Meanwhile he is in the capable hands of Kayla Parrish, who I can’t thank enough for being there for my kids when I ask.
To all those who constantly ask about my well being, I am growing stronger each day and I promise, I feel your prayers and remain humble and grateful.
Thanks for listening.
