The Tryon Police Department is now equipped with body cameras for all officers to carry. Tryon Town Council met Jan. 20 and heard a presentation by Police Chief Jeff Arrowood regarding the new cameras.
Arrowood said all seven road officers now carry the cameras. The town purchased the cameras for approximately $7,000 for all seven. The town purchased the cameras after testing one for a couple of months from
Taser.
The cameras are initiated when an officer manually turns on the video. Arrowood told council he has initiated a policy regarding the cameras, including rules for when officers are to turn on the camera. The cameras are turned on during every vehicle stop. Arrowood also said the cameras will be beneficial for both drivers who get stopped by the town and for officers’ accountability. He also said the video cannot be
manipulated by anyone in the department.
