Edith Denton Thompson, 91, of Tryon died at her home Jan. 18, 2015.  She was the daughter of the late William R. and Mamie Wilson Denton and wife of the late James Randolph Thompson.

She was a member of and regularly attended Morgan Chapel Baptist Church where she had served as the church clerk and was active in WMU. She loved her church family and gardening. She had retired from textiles.

She was survived by a son, Gerald Thompson (Susan) of Tryon; two daughters, Joyce Scoggins (Phil) and Diane Arnett (Bucky) both of Campobello; seven grandchildren, James Thompson (Jennifer), Joann Randolph (Shannon), Brent Scoggins (Meghan), Lucas Scoggins and Garrison, Ivy and Jeffery Arnett; three great grandchildren, Miguel and Santiago Thompson and Abbott Scoggins; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by two brothers, George Denton and Jack Denton.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2015 at Petty Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2015 at Petty Funeral Chapel conducted by Mr. Phil Scoggins and Rev. Keith Stott. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens.

The family is at the home of Phil and Joyce Scoggins.
