Mark Lee Knight, age 74, formerly of Fulton, N.Y., died Nov. 25 at Autumn Care in Saluda after a brief battle with cancer. He was born in Fulton on Oct. 23, 1940 and was the son of the late James F. and Emma (Guile) Knight. He graduated from Oswego Catholic High School and St. Bonaventure University. He completed graduate studies at SUNY Oswego, Columbia University, City College of New York, St. Bonaventure University, Harvard University and UCLA. He received an M.S. degree in Chemical Education and an M.S. degree in Guidance and Counseling. He was a life member of the National Science Teachers Association.

Mark taught chemistry at Fulton High School, G. Ray Bodley High School, Christian Brothers Academy and Bishop Grimes High School, where he also coached volleyball. He was the Director of Admissions at St. Bonaventure University. Mark was also an active member of the Fulton Men’s Chorus, the original Fulton Community Theater and the Bishop Grimes Community Theater. For many years he was the director of the traveling Bishop Grimes Lenten Mystery Players. In 1989 he was the recipient of the Bishop Harrison Coach of the Year Award.

Mark enjoyed gardening, reading, birds and traveling. He attended St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Tryon, N.C.

He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, James, all of Fulton, N.Y. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, the former Rosalind M. Spaman of Mill Spring, N.C., daughter Allison (Kevin) Wierman of Mill Spring, N.C. and daughter Jennifer (Scott) Spencer of Pittsburgh, Pa.; grandchildren Hannah (Jeff) Chale, Jessica (James) Bowers, William Wierman, Shaun and Samantha Spencer, great-grandchildren Lydia and Luke Chale and Brynn Bowers; brothers Donald of Fulton, N.Y., Francis of Simi Valley, Calif., and many nephews, nieces and cousins.

Services were held at Foster Funeral Home in Fulton, N.Y. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, with burial following at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Fulton, N.Y.
