Santa hears more voices: Community Chorus Dec. 14

Published 10:11 pm Thursday, December 4, 2014

The Community Chorus has continued to focus on learning all the right notes and words for the numbers to be performed for the community on Dec. 14. The various voices are working together to blend and to harmonize in order to please Candy Wilson, the director, and to create a memorable Christmas concert for Polk County.

Santa has been focused, too, continuing to observe and listen secretly to the variety of voices in the chorus. He has reported on the sopranos and basses, so he decided to spend a little time with the tenors and altos.

The tenors were happy with their seating for the most part, except for a couple of times when really low notes from the basses rattled the lights during rehearsals.

And when he noticed a couple of tenors ducking, as if to avoid low-flying jets breaking the sound barrier, he decided some hats would be in order, so he added toppers to his gift list for all the tenors.“Those caps,” he reasoned, “will serve two purposes, protection and keeping the heads warm for those who could use a little extra coverage.”

And he did hear a tenor or two wish for tighter whities. After a few minutes of considered thought and hearing some of their notes in the higher reaches, he realized they knew what they were about.

Earlier in his study, he had observed a stray group of altos wandering around together, saying what sounded like “F-R-O-S – T-Y” and snapping their fingers in an odd configuration. After some deliberation, he decided they must have been hungry for frozen yogurt from that new place in Landrum, so he added to their list a gift card for that establishment.

Other than that, since the altos were like Mary Poppins – practically perfect in every way – Santa ended his study and returned to his day job with his elves and reindeer, getting everyone ready for his own big night.

But he had become so interested in the program and the singers, the accompanist and the choral director, he decided to try to stop in at Polk County High School around 3 p.m. on Dec. 14 for the Christmas program. And since he believes in good works, Santa is always delighted to support the Scholarship Program of the Rotary Club of Tryon.

Tickets are available at the door the day of the performance. Or you may purchase them from chorus members or members of the Rotary Club of Tryon.
