Polk County Sheriff Donald Hill secures second term

Polk County Sheriff Donald Hill retained his seat on Tuesday night, Nov. 4 by 3,241 votes, according to unofficial results by the Polk County Board of Elections.
Hill (D) received 3,393 votes compared to challenger Pat Staggs’ (R) 2,152 votes, according to unofficial results.
Hill will serve his second full term as sheriff of Polk County.
He was appointed sheriff in 2008 and won in 2012 as well as on Tuesday, Nov. 4.
Hill won in all of Polk County’s seven precincts, according to unofficial results.
Hill had 399 votes in Coopers Gap, compared to Staggs’ 200 votes; Hill had 866 votes in Columbus 7 compared to Staggs’ 294 votes; Hill had 978 votes in Columbus 8 compared to Staggs’ 359 votes; Hill had 889 votes in Green Creek, compared to Staggs’ 407 votes; Hill had 468 votes in Saluda, compared to Staggs’ 267 votes; Hill had 1,220 votes in Tryon, compared to Staggs’ 370 votesand Hill had 573 votes in White Oak, compared to Staggs’ 255 votes.
Hill received a four-year term and will be up for re-election again in 2018.
Hill has been with the sheriff’s office for approximately 20 years.
This was Staggs’, a retired state trooper with the N.C. Highway Patrol’s first bid for sheriff of Polk County.
