John Gargiulo takes his SNAP Challenge seriously as he holds his peanut butter and jelly sandwich while fellow Rotarians go through the buffet line at Thursday’s Tryon Rotary meeting.
As part of Hunger Action Month, John and his wife Ann are restricting their food for to only that amount that could be bought by food stamps, or $4.50 per person per day.
After receiving kudos from Rotarians for his participation in the project, John explained how taking the SNAP Challenge helps one understand better the plight of those less fortunate.
“Such a budget does not allow outside meals,” he says.
