Tryon Writers will perform their second annual reading at the Tryon Fine Arts Center’s Peterson Amphitheater on Sunday, Oct. 5 at 3 p.m. The public is invited to this free event featuring readings of original prose and poetry from a selection of Tryon Writers: Lee Stockdale, Monica Jones, Lavin Cuddihee, Susan McNabb, Greg Lobas and David Riddle.
Monica Jones is the 2014 Sidney Lanier Poetry Prize winner for her poem Silvertown, and is also a past contributor to Bold Life and Carolina Home and Garden. Susan McNabb is author of the novel Drop Dead Gorgeous (by Suki McMinn), writes the weekly column Tryon Diary for the Tryon Daily Bulletin and contributes to Life in our Foothills. Lavin Cuddihee recently enjoyed a starring role in the independent film Cinema Purgatorio, and spearheads, with others, the new Polk County Film Initiative. Greg Lobas’ work has appeared in Outdoor Life, The Cleveland Plain Dealer Magazine and a variety of other national and regional magazines and newspapers.
David Riddle, a former Polk County middle school science teacher, is “in the process of processing my past (and present) through writing, mainly memoir, poetry and short fiction.”
Lee Stockdale is the 2013 Sidney Lanier Poetry Prize recipient and author of the novel Murder of Law.
Tryon Writers is a purposely inclusive and expanding group whose goal is to promote the literary arts in our community. In case of rain, the readings will move inside the Fine Arts Center. Refreshments will be available for purchase.
