An unusual blend of the human voice and cello can be heard in the TGIF concert sponsored by the Tryon Concert Association, Friday, Feb. 27, 2015 at 6 p.m. at the Tryon Fine Arts Center.
Two artists, soprano Allison Phol and cellist Alistair MacRae, will bring their vocal and instrumental duo to the stage as they perform for our second TGIF concert.
Opera singer, Allison Phol, has performed widely in the United States as well as in Italy and China in such roles as Nannetta in Falstaff, Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro, Gretel in Hansel and Gretel, Rosina in The Barber of Seville and soprano soloist in Mozart’s Requiem. Critics speak of her “sparkling voice,” and “exuberant performances.” Pohl completed undergraduate studies at SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Music and received a Master of Music degree from Boston University.
Cellist Alistair MacRae has been a soloist, chamber musician and has served as principal cellist with groups throughout the United States, in Europe, Asia, South America and the Middle East. His playing is praised for its “rich sound and lyrical phrasing.” Based in New York he has appeared in major concert halls in New York as well as surrounding summer festivals.
A graduate of Princeton University and the Manhattan School of Music, MacRae is a professor of cello at Princeton University, Trenton College of New Jersey and the Brevard Music Center.
A wine and beer bar will be open at 5:30 p.m. before the concert, which starts at 6 p.m. Tickets are available at the door the evening of the performance.
