Polk County and Hendersonville, two closely-matched teams, clashed in varsity high school soccer Wednesday evening, with Hendersonville taking home a 2-1 overtime win over the Wolverines.
Polk’s lone score came in the second half when David Sanchez took the ball close to the Bearcat net, and booted it in. That shot tied the game at one apiece.
After regulation, the teams were deadlocked, forcing two ten-minute overtime periods. Hendersonville scored a long (30-40-yard) goal about halfway through the first overtime,  to take the lead, which held.
When the Bearcats scored first, in the first period, the Wolverines seemed to kick up their intensity a bit. From there, it was two good teams unable to do much against each other, though Polk goaltender Tyler Campbell made some fine saves.
Polk fell to 5-4-2 overall, and 4-2 in conference play.
On Monday, the Wolverines visit Madison County (At Marshall). Next Wednesday (Oct. 1), they host Mountain Heritage. Both games are varsity-only, beginning at 6 p.m.
