Vallie Rae Durham

Vallie Rae Ashley Durham, 90, went to be with her Lord in her heavenly home Saturday June 21, 2014 at her home in Spartanburg, S.C.
Born in Oscola, S.C. she was the daughter of the late Charles and Minnie Belle Ashley. She was the widow of Francis Pickens Durham who died in 1983 after 40 years of marriage. A longtime registered nurse, she retired at age 80 after 58 years of service to the Dr. Sam Black family and Mary Black Urgent Care. She was a member of Northbrook Baptist Church, Spartanburg, S.C.
She had a deep abiding faith that could be seen in everything she did.
She cherished and was cherished by her family and all that knew her. She loved tending to her roses and flowers and loved hand painting and sculpting her eggs and got so much joy from giving them to family and friends. She will be greatly, greatly missed.
Survivors include her daughter, Sherry Cooper (William) of Boiling Springs, SC; three grandchildren, William E. Cooper, Jr. (Windi) of Greer, S.C.; Ashley Dawn Cooper Luster (Twrin) of Spartanburg, S.C.; and Justin Ryan Durham of Spartanburg, S.C.
Also surviving are two brothers, Larry Ashley (Elaine), Fred Ashley (Becky) and a sister-in-law, Isabelle Ashley; as well as six great-grand children: Christopher Cooper, Ty Luster, Latwon Luster, Evan Cooper, Brody Cooper, and Ila Kate Cooper. She was preceded in death by a son, Francis Pickens Durham, Jr. two brothers, Wilson Ashley, and David Ashley; as well as four sisters: Thedas Ormand (Charles), Homer Jones (Don), Mary Shannon (Jim) and Caroline Case (Roy).
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at Columbus Presbyterian Church, 21 Peniel Rd. Columbus, N.C. 28722, with Pastor Benny Greene officiating.
