Polk Central held an awards day for all fifth grade students on June 6. Students in Benita Rudi’s all-boys classroom spent 45 minutes each week throughout the year mastering the games of chess with the help of volunteers from the Polk County Knights Chess Club, organized by Brian Crissey. The top chess players for the year were acknowledged with plaques.
The chess program was sponsored by a grant from the Polk County Community Foundation.
