Polk County EMS is celebrating National EMS week this week, May 18-24.
It started off with a dinner on Saturday, May 17, where many awards and thanks were given to all members of the Polk County EMS team.
The team consists of 911 dispatchers, first responders who volunteer countless hours away from their families, buying their own gas to respond to calls and attending many hours of training, along with the County EMS employees who work endless hours sacrificing nights, weekends and holidays to provide the highest quality emergency medical care to the citizens of Polk County 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, all while maintaining countless hours of training.
Polk County EMS has several special county events planned this week to include the citizens of the county in a weeklong celebration of the sacrifices and services these team members provide throughout the year.
County commissioners issued two proclamations in regards to National EMS week at their May 5 meeting, one acknowledging the services of the Polk County EMS team and designating the week as EMS week and another to designate Wednesday, May 21 as EMS for Children Day.
