The Second Wind Hall of Fame recently selected four individuals to receive a “Catch a Second Wind” scholarship.
Ms. Devon LaFromboise was awarded a scholarship to continue her studies at Blue Ridge Community College in order to complete an Associates Degree in Business Administration.
She is the Town Clerk for the Town of Columbus and recently earned her Certified Municipal Clerk designation.
Ms. Dawn Forward is a full-time history teacher at Polk County High School.  Her scholarship will be used to offset her costs to obtain her professional recertification from the National Board/Teaching.
Mr. Marshall Lipscomb will use his scholarship to attend Blue Ridge Community College to obtain an Associates Degree in Emergency Medical Science.  Mr. Lipscomb works full-time at the Columbus Fire Department, and part-time with Polk County EMS and the Tryon Fire Department.
Ms. Christa Klovach Herman is a part-time massage therapist at Tryon Estates.  Her scholarship will assist her in attending Isothermal Community College to obtain her degree as a Registered Nurse.
Second Wind Hall of Fame is an organization that recognizes retirees who have done outstanding volunteer work in the Thermal Belt Community.  The organization raises funds to provide scholarships for adults in the community who are seeking additional educations or training in their current career or in a new career.  Called “Catch a Second Wind” scholarships, they provide needed funds for an adult who:
– Is at least a high school graduate
– Has exemplary personal qualities, is a good citizen and is “deserving” and industrious
– Is, or has been, in the workplace and has demonstrated a good work ethic
– Can demonstrate material benefit to be gained by additional training
– Plans to attend an accredited public or private college, university, community college, or a recognized technical or vocational institution.
If interested, an application for a scholarship may be requested by writing to: SWHF Scholarship Committee, PO Box 711, Tryon, N.C. 28782
