Australian singer/songwriter/guitarist Geoff Achison will open his 2014 US tour at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 16 with a solo performance in the Peterson Amphitheater at Tryon Fine Arts Center.
Achison, “one of the finest blues guitarists I know…” according to Jorma Kaukenen of Jefferson Airplane/Hot Tuna, has performed to sold out audiences at Tryon Fine Arts Center previously with the Randall Bramblett band. This show promises an acoustic and intimate performance with Achison, whom Atlanta critics call “simply a phenomenal guitarist, great singer, and a riveting live performer.”
Geoff Achison is an independent Australian musician who has forged his own path to a successful career that has won him fans all over the world. Having taught himself to play in the isolation of rural Australia, he has developed a blues/funk style all his own that can be delicate one moment and explosive the next.
Unaware of how the sounds he was hearing on his limited record collection were produced, he invented some of his own techniques – without the aid of pedals or gadgets.
He is also a very capable vocalist with a gritty, soulful quality to his voice. Inspired by the great Blues and R&B music, Geoff’s live set features a mix of gutsy original tunes and dynamic new arrangements of blues & soul classics.
The May 16 Geoff Achison concert is part of the Spring “TFAC OUTDOORS” series. Food vendors and concessions will be available. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated at the door. For more information, visit www.tryonarts.org or call 828-859-8322.
