Rotarians Carol Browning and Carol Jackson were presented their second level Paul Harris Fellow Award at a recent meeting of the Rotary Club of Tryon by President Elect Judy Lair.
The award, which is named in honor of the founder of Rotary International, is in recognition of their support of the Rotary Foundation’s goal to achieve world understanding and peace through international humanitarian, educational and cultural exchange programs.
One of the many successful programs of Rotary International is “Polio Plus” in which Rotarians from throughout the world have committed over $850 million to global polio eradication. To date, more than two billion children have received the oral polio vaccine, and as a result, 209 countries, territories and areas around the world are polio free.
Just recently, the World Health Organization has declared India, a country that was once experiencing 200,000 cases of polio annually, to be polio free.
The Rotary Club of Tryon wishes to express its appreciation to all of its members whose support is helping to achieve the goals of Rotary International.
