Center City Brass Quintet

As the final concert of the 2013-14 season, the Tryon Concert Association will present Center City Brass Quintet, April 12, 2014 at 8 p.m. at the Tryon Fine Arts Center, Melrose Avenue.
This renowned ensemble is composed of five exceptional brass players who first met while students at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. After leaving Curtis their individual careers have taken them across the nation where they perform as soloists and members of America’s finest orchestras, including the Pittsburgh Symphony, Seattle Symphony, Cleveland Orchestra and the Buffalo Philharmonic.
They reconvene as a quintet each year to perform throughout the U.S. and abroad. This past season they were heard in Chicago, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Cleveland, Baltimore, Boise and Eugene.  They also perform with the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra and over numerous trips to Japan have held seminars for conservatory students from around the globe.  The group is featured on radio and television across the U.S. including NPR’s Performance Today and in Japan on Tokyo FM.
From this group Tryon can almost claim horn player Richard King as one of its own. Although he was raised in Long Island, NY, Richard’s mother, Lois Ell, and her husband moved to Tryon in 1987. Richard became associate principal horn of the Cleveland Orchestra at age 20 and has performed as principal horn of this distinguished orchestra since 1997-98.
Described by American Record Guide as “a virtuoso outfit which plays like none other,” and by Gramophone as “an exquisitely blended ensemble,” Center City Brass Quintet will bring a concert of music ranging from Bernstein and Hindemith to recent works of the 21st century.
The concert series is by subscription. For information call 828-859-6065 or write Tryon Concert Association, P.O. Box 32, Tryon NC 28782. For more information visit our website: TryonConcerts.com
