Tryon Rotary distributions over $48,000 for year to date

Charles McKeller recently presented a report to the Rotary Club of Tryon of the Year to Date distributions of the Rotary Club of Tryon Foundation. McKeller, Foundation Chairperson, announced the pay out of in excess of $48,000 for the 2013-14 fiscal year.
In the area of youth education, the Tryon Rotary Foundation supported the youth scholarship program with $20,800 and an additional allocation of $6,000 for the Rotary Reading Is Fundamental Program at Polk Central Elementary School, students of technical training through Polk County High School, the New Century Scholars through Isothermal Community College Foundation (Polk Campus) and the annual youth exchange program with the Pirmasens, Germany Rotary Club.
Locally, the Rotary Club Foundation supported eight projects totaling $16,546.
The major gifts were for the club’s Gift of Life program.
The program underwrites individual assistance for local children with special medical needs, to Thermal Belt Outreach Ministry and the Patriots Salute to Veterans.
Internationally, $5000 was allocated through Rotary International for Polio Plus (global eradication of polio), Shelter Boxes (disaster relief), and the Wheel Chair Foundation
The Rotary Club of Tryon utilizes a number of fund-raisers including the annual Shrimp & Sausage fest, the Fourth of July Bike Tour, gourmet nut sales, the spring and Christmas Community Chorus concerts and personal contributions.
The Polk County Community Foundation also maintains a fund for the Rotary Scholarship Program.
