Partners in Education program of the John F. Kennedy Center for the performing arts is designed to assist arts organizations throughout the nation to develop or expand educational partnerships with their local school systems. The primary purpose of these school/community partnerships in the arts is to promote the professional learning of teachers. Education partnerships contribute to making the arts a part of every student’s education. Partnership teams are accepted into the program by an application and approval process. District One Schools Spartanburg County has been selected to participate. We will partner with the 1996 Partnership team consisting of Spartanburg School District Six and The Arts Partnership. “The Arts Partnership of Greater Spartanburg of The Chapman Cultural Center and Spartanburg District One are members of the Partners in Education program of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Washington, D.C. Selected because of their demonstrated commitment to the improvement of education in and through the arts, the Partnership Team participates in collaborative efforts to make the arts integral to education.”
As part of a quality student-centered education, the mission of the Arts Program in District One is to provide equitable, creative expression for all students. To better affirm the place of arts education in a balanced core curriculum, we encourage the terminology, Academic Arts when referring to our Visual and Performing Arts programs. As a member of the Kennedy Center for the Arts Partners in Education, District One follows their model of Arts Integration that supports the 21st-century needs of students and teachers, and help ensure that all students are college and career ready. “When Superintendent Dr. Ron Garner told me a little over a year ago that he would like to see our arts programming grow and expand opportunities for students, I was thrilled,” said Cindy Riddle, District One Schools Coordinator of Visual and Performing Arts. “We have so many talented students. I am continually encouraged and amazed by the beautiful art pieces created, the outstanding skill and talent of the musical groups and ensembles, and the exceptional acting talent exhibited by our young actors in plays in all grade levels.
“Teachers, parents, and the community are so supportive in District One and our students’ growth and talent in all areas continues to excel.”
