Soon the spring seasons for area recreation league baseball and softball teams will begin.

Polk County Youth Sports is currently taking signups and will continue those through this Saturday, March 1.

PCYS will be set up at Stearns Gym from 10 a.m.–1 p.m. that day, or parents can pick up a signup form during the week from the Wells Fargo Advisors office in Tryon.

Established in 2013, PCYS is a combination of the Cal Ripken and Little League groups. After a season primarily under the Cal Ripken umbrella, this year the group is chartering fully under Little League. This will expand the organization’s play to other local communities and increase team’s competition.

A generous grant from the Polk County Community Foundation has allowed the organization to reduce its fee this year to $50 per child.

PCYS would also love parent volunteers. An annual officer elections will be this Thursday, Feb. 27 at 7 p.m. at Stearns Gym. For more information, call Mike Ashworth at 919-345-9265.
