Tuesday School hosts second chance prom

How do you remember your prom? With fondness? With horror? Did you even go? Fortunately, local non-profit Tuesday School wants to give you another opportunity.
This Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014, from 8-11 p.m. Tuesday School will host its first Second Chance Prom at Sunnydale in Tryon.
The theme is Thrift Shop Chic.
“The idea is to pull out that dress in the back of the closet that you bought for your cousin’s first wedding and are never going to wear again, that sport jacket that was totally cool in 1986, but not so awesome now, or pick up that sweater/skirt/dress you saw at the thrift store that is just so ugly/sparkly/over the top it is cool,” said Jen Grubbs, the school’s fundraising co-chair. “We are hoping that people will just have fun with it!”
Dressing up is not a requirement, but it sure will be fun. The majority of Tuesday School’s operating expenses are covered by fundraising, and Tuesday School wanted to do something different to get the community involved, have fun and make fundraising a little less stressful for the parents, Grubb said.
Music will be provided by DJ RubberBandMan from Travelers Rest, S.C. and will feature an eclectic mix of all genres and decades.
Beer and wine will be available for purchase and has been provided by Tryon’s own La Bouteille.
“We really like to keep as much of our business as local as possible. McKinsey Printing provided the poster printing. Shelly Block at La Bouteille helped us pick some great wine and local beers. Daniel Dry Goods opened their doors to ticket sales. Many treasures have been found locally at our area thrift stores, such as Hospice Barn in Landrum. A sense of community is something we want our children to learn and live, so we make efforts to lead by example,” said Grubbs.
Tickets will be available at the door. You must be 21 or over to attend. Doors will open at 7:45 p.m. and ticket sales will continue until 10 p.m.
All profits will benefit Tuesday School, a non-profit preschool that has been in our community for more than 40 years.
