Joseph Momier

Joseph Stokes Momier, 92, of Landrum passed away February 6, 2014.  He was the son of the late Joseph Craft and Margaret Stokes Momier and husband of Virl Ann Morrow Momier.

He was a veteran of WWII serving in the US Air Corps.  He was stationed at Amarillo Air Base, Texas from 1942-1945.  He was an electronics instructor.

He was a member of Westminister Presbyterian Church, Johns Island Presbyterian Church and Landrum Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Charleston, S.C., owner and operator of Momier’s Garage in Charleston, S.C. from 1945-1961.

He retired as State Maintenance Specialist, the State Education Finance Commission, school bus division.

He was a trustee with the Johns Island High School Board of Education.

He is survived by his wife, Virl Ann Morrow Momier; two sons, Joseph S. Momier Jr. and Jim Momier; three grandchildren, James Momier Jr., Shane Momier and Joseph R. Momier; great-grandchildren, Atlas Momier and Casey L. Momier; brother-in-law, Doyce L. Morrow; and niece Karen L. Morrow. He also is survived by special friends, Richard and Yolanda Walker who helped the family immeasurably during his illness.

He was predeceased by a brother, William B. Momier.

The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014 at Petty Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel conducted by Dr. Gene Lassiter. Burial will be in Wellford Cemetery.
