Writer Norman Powers of Landrum will be the featured speaker at Lanier Library’s Brown Bag Lunch on Tuesday, Jan. 21.
Powers will discuss his latest novel, “Lily’s Game.” Set in western Massachusetts in the 1960s, it is a “mesmerizing tale of secrecy and deception driven by the rules of a game that turns deadly.”
A native of Massachusetts, Powers has a background in the television and film industry as a studio technician, writer and producer. Today he is a freelance writer and photographer for regional publications, including Bold Life and Carolina Home and Garden.
A previous novel, “End Credits,” was published in 2009. Powers has been the recipient of the Hub City Writer’s Project’s creative nonfiction award, and has had his short stories published in Hub City anthologies.
Powers has also written a play, titled “Dottie and Fred,” that has been presented by The Director’s Company in Manhattan and by Duke University’ Triangle Theater Festival. The play explores the relationship between writers Dorothy Parker and Robert Benchley.
Lanier Library’s Brown Bag Lunches take place the third Tuesday of each month in the library at noon, and are open to the public free of charge.
